How do I link a file or resource from my computer?

In order to allow The Hive to link to files stored locally on your computer, you must install a third-party browser extension for Google Chrome that can do this.

There is more information about this in the Consent Information screen within the Links page.

If you do not use Google Chrome with this extension installed, you will not be able to open files that are one your computer directly from The Hive.

1. Press on Content from the left-hand side menu.

2. Then press on Create Item.

3. While you can't upload files directly, you can use the "Link" option to share your file or resource.

4. Press on From your computer.

5. If you haven't done so already, read and accept the consent information about the requirement to install a third-party extension.

6. If you haven't already done so, follow the in-app instructions to install a third-party local links extension.

7. Name your link.

8. Copy the path of your file from your computer and paste it to the Local file path box. To learn how to do this, click on "I'm on a Mac" or "I'm on Windows", depending on your operating system.

9. Click on "Link to file" to create the link.

10. You can check out the Links you created from the Content tab from the left-hand side menu.

  1. Connect links to your timetable for easier access. Read more here.

Linked PDF files will automatically open in a new tab when accessed through the timetable, while other files will be downloaded.

For PowerPoint presentations, it's recommended to embed them within the Hive. Read more here:

If you prefer to be able to edit them, then upload them online and link them accordingly. Read more here.
