Number Line Sorting
Number Line Sorting is an interactive number line activity where students place a set of numbers in the correct positions on the line. It's a great way to build number sense and practise estimating where numbers belong — and it works across a wide range of number ranges.
How do I access Number Line Sorting?
You can access Number Line Sorting in three ways:
- Through Teach Mode — open Number Line Sorting directly from the bottom bar of Teach Mode.

- From the Apps library — browse or search for Number Line Sorting in the Apps library.

- In your slide deck — search for Number Line Sorting in the apps panel on the right and tap it to drop it onto your slide. From there, you can move and resize it however you like.

How do I use Number Line Sorting?

Open the settings panel to set up the activity:
- Min. number / Max. number — set the range of the number line (e.g. 0–100).
- Number of markers — choose how many numbers students will need to place on the line.
- Generate — tap to create the number line with a random set of numbers to sort.
Once generated, coloured markers will appear on the number line, and the numbers to be placed are shown at the top of the screen under 'Your numbers'.
Placing numbers
To place a number on the line:
- Tap a coloured marker on the number line to select it.
- Then tap the matching number from the 'Your numbers' list at the top to place it.
The marker will only show as correct once it's been placed in the right position. If the placement is off, it will stay the same — no feedback is shown until the number is in exactly the right spot.

Use the buttons at the top to manage the activity:
- Clear guesses — removes all placed numbers and lets students start again.
- New numbers — generates a fresh set of numbers to place on the same number line.
Marker palette
Choose a colour palette from the settings panel to change the look of the markers. Options include Hive, Pastel Rainbow, Botanical, Neutral, Neon, Primary, Oceanscape, Ice Cream Pastel, Sunrise Sherbet, and Greyscale.
Annotations
Turn on Annotations in the settings panel to write or draw directly on the screen — useful for showing working out or marking positions before placing a number.
Number visibility and Zoom
- Number visibility — control whether all numbers, some, or none are shown on the line.
- Zoom — adjust how many numbers are visible at once, or tap zoom to fit to scale the line to the screen.
