What is Teach Mode?

Teach Mode is the Hive's in-class experience. It turns your screen into a clean, full-screen teaching surface — no menus, no sidebars, just your content and your timetable.

How do I open Teach Mode?

From the home screen, tap Start Teaching. You can also find it in the left-hand menu under Teach Mode.

What can I use in Teach Mode?

Anything you've prepared:

  • Slide decks — present your slides full-screen
  • Apps — run interactive activities (timers, random pickers, phonics tools, etc.)
  • Videos — play pinned or timetabled videos
  • Rotations — display rotation activities for group work
  • Links — open external links in a new tab
  • Buzzboard — a whiteboarding tool for your class

Use the bar along the bottom of the screen to switch between content types and pick specific items.

How does the timetable work in Teach Mode?

Your timetable for today appears on the right-hand side. Tap any entry to load that content straight into the main view — no searching or navigating required.

What happened to the menu?

It's still there — it just hides automatically when you enter Teach Mode so your class only sees your content. You can bring it back by tapping the chevron icon in the bottom-left corner.

What's the difference between Teach Mode and the rest of the app?

The Hive has two sides:

  • Teach Mode is for when you're in front of your class. It's designed to be fast, simple, and distraction-free.
  • Prep is for everything you do outside of lessons — planning your week, creating slide decks, finding apps and resources, managing your classes. It's centred around the Planner.

You don't need to "set up" Teach Mode separately. Anything you create, pin, or connect shows up automatically when you need it.

Do I need to prepare content before using Teach Mode?

Not necessarily. You can browse apps and videos directly from Teach Mode using the bottom bar. But Teach Mode works best when you've done a bit of prep first — creating slide decks, pinning your favourite apps, connecting content to activities in your timetable, and organising your week in the Planner. That way, everything is ready to go when you get started in the morning.

Can I edit things while in Teach Mode?

By default, everything opens in presentation mode — clean and ready to show your class. But things change in the classroom, so you can still adapt without leaving. Slides, apps, and rotations can all be edited or configured directly in Teach Mode.

Editing slides without leaving Teach Mode

When you're done, you can exit Teach Mode at any time using the exit button in the top-right corner. You can also simply navigate to any other page via the left navigation menu.
