Grid Coordinates
Grid Coordinates is an interactive maths activity where students identify the location of shapes on a labelled grid. It's a great hands-on way to practise reading coordinates and build spatial awareness — and you can run it straight from your slide deck.
How do I access Grid Coordinates?
You can access Grid Coordinates in three ways:
- Through Teach Mode — open Grid Coordinates directly from the bottom bar of Teach Mode.

- From the Apps library — browse or search for Grid Coordinates in the Apps library.

- In your slide deck — search for Grid Coordinates in the apps panel on the right and tap it to drop it onto your slide. From there, you can move and resize it however you like.

How do I use Grid Coordinates?
Open Grid Coordinates and a coloured grid will appear, filled with a variety of shapes at different positions. Columns are labelled with letters and rows with numbers, so each shape has a unique coordinate (e.g. D3, A1).

A question panel sits alongside the grid, listing a set of shapes or coordinates for students to identify. Students work through the questions by selecting the correct answer from the dropdowns provided.
Use the buttons at the bottom of the question panel to manage the activity:
- Generate — creates a new set of questions with a freshly randomised grid.
- Check Answers — reveals whether each answer is correct.

Question types
The activity can be set up in three different ways, giving you flexibility depending on what your students are working on:
- Shape and colour only — students are given a coordinate (e.g. D3) and must identify the colour and shape at that location using the dropdowns.

- Mixed — some questions give the coordinate and ask students to name the shape, while others show the shape and ask students to find its coordinate.

- Coordinates only — students are shown a shape and must find its coordinate on the grid.

Tips
- You can add Grid Coordinates to your favourite apps via the Teach Mode or through the App library. Click on this icon if you're adding it through the App library.

- You can connect Grid Coordinates to specific subjects in your timetable (read more about timetable connections here). If you're connecting it through the App library, click this icon.
