How do I change a Tracker column type after creating it?

You can switch a column to a different type at any time, and your data for each type is preserved separately.

Changing column type

  1. Click the column header
  2. Hover over Change type
  3. Select the new type from the submenu

How data is handled

Each column type stores its data separately. When you switch types:

  • The current type's data is preserved (just hidden)
  • If you've previously entered data for the new type, it reappears
  • If you switch back to the original type, your data is still there

This means you can experiment with different column types without losing any data.

Example

  1. You create a Text column and enter "A", "B", "C" for students
  2. You change it to a Checkbox column - the text values are preserved but hidden
  3. You check some boxes for students
  4. You switch back to Text - your original "A", "B", "C" values reappear

Important note

Converting to Select: You'll be prompted to set up your options after changing. The column will show your Select options going forward.
