Flash Cards Generator

The Flash Cards Generator creates printable flash cards for your class. Fill them with words, numbers, or maths expressions — perfect for sight word practice, spelling, maths fluency drills, and vocabulary revision. Print, cut, and they're ready to use.

Looking for something interactive? If you'd prefer to use flash cards on screen rather than printing them, check out the Flash Cards app — a digital version you can run with your class directly from The Hive.

How do I create flash cards?

Use the left-hand panel to choose your data source and settings. A preview of the cards will appear on the right. When you're happy, tap Download PDF to save your file.

How do I choose what goes on the cards?

Via The Hive

Hive members can choose from five data source options and set how many cards to create using the Cards to create field at the top of the panel:

  • Numbers — generates cards filled with random numbers. Set a minimum and maximum value, then tap New numbers to generate.

  • Math expressions — fills the cards with equations. Set a minimum and maximum number, choose your operations, and optionally include special operations. Tap New expressions to generate.

  • Hive words — draws from The Hive's built-in word library. Use the filters to narrow by phonics category or sound pattern, then tap Get new words.

  • From a Word Bank — uses words from one of your saved Word Banks. Choose your Word Bank from the dropdown, then tap Get new words.

  • Type or paste — type or paste your own words into the text field, one per line or separated by commas, then tap Use these words.

Tip: If you type or paste your own words, consider saving them to a Word Bank so you can easily recreate the boards next time. Read more: How do I add words in my Word Bank?

Wordabase users can choose from two options:

  • My Word Bank — uses words from your current Wordabase Word Bank. The number of words in your bank is shown below the option. Tap the word bank icon to open your word list, then tap Actions to manage it — you can add custom words, load a saved Word Bank, start a new Word Bank, and more.

  • Type or paste — type or paste your own words into the text field, one per line or separated by commas, then tap Use these words.
