Roll a Silly Sentence

Roll a Silly Sentence randomly generates decodable silly sentences for students to read. Roll the dice to reveal each part of the sentence one at a time — great for engaging early readers, practising phonics, and building fluency in a fun, game-like format.


How do I access Roll a Silly Sentence?

You can access Roll a Silly Sentence in three ways:

  • Through Teach Mode — open Roll a Silly Sentence directly from the bottom bar of Teach Mode.

  • From the Apps library — browse or search for Roll a Silly Sentence in the Apps library.

  • In your slide deck — search for Roll a Silly Sentence in the apps panel on the right and tap it to drop it onto your slide. From there, you can move and resize it however you like.

How do I use Roll a Silly Sentence?

Once your words are generated, the sentence is displayed as a table with each column representing a part of the sentence (subject, verb, object, and so on). Tap the dice button to roll and reveal each part one at a time, building the full sentence across the screen.

Tap Reset at the bottom of the screen to clear the current sentence and roll again.

Turn on Show arrows to display visual guides that help students follow the direction of the sentence across the table.

How do I choose which words are generated?

Tap Get new words to generate a new set of sentence parts based on your current filter settings.

Filters

Use the Filters section in the settings panel to choose which phonics patterns the words are drawn from. Categories include CVC, CVCC+, Long vowels, and Consonant digraphs — expand each group to select specific patterns, or tap All to include everything in that category. Tap Clear next to a group to deselect all its patterns.

Allow adjectives and plurals

  • Allow adjectives — turn on to include adjectives in the generated sentences, adding more variety and silliness.
  • Allow plurals — turn on to allow plural nouns to appear in the sentences.

Tips

  • You can add Roll a Silly Sentence to your favourite apps via the Teach Mode or through the App library. Click on this icon if you're adding it through the App library.
