Hive Five Points
Hive Five Points is a student points system that lets you award Hive Fives to individual students or your whole class. Points automatically sync whether you access the app through Teach Mode, the Apps library, or a slide deck.
How do I access Hive Five Points?
You can access Hive Five Points in three ways:
- Through Teach Mode — open Hive Five Points directly from the bottom bar of Teach Mode.
- From the Apps library — browse or search for Hive Five Points in the Apps library.
- In your slide deck — search for Hive Five Points in the apps panel on the right and tap it to drop it onto your slide. Points will automatically sync with the app, so you can switch between both without losing any data.
How do I use Hive Five Points?
Open the app and your class will appear as a grid of student tiles, each showing their current point total. Tap a student's tile to select them — you can select multiple students at once. A menu will appear giving you the option to Award, Redeem points, or View history.
To award the whole class at once, tap Award all.
Awarding points
When awarding points, choose the type of Hive Five to give — each has a name, an image, and a point value. The award is added to the selected student's total.
Redeeming points
Tap Redeem points after selecting one or more students to redeem their earned points for a reward. Enter the number of points to redeem and a note about what the points are being redeemed for. Once redeemed, those points are reset to zero.
Viewing history
Tap View history on a student's tile to see a record of all the points they've been awarded or had redeemed.
How do I customise Hive Fives?
Tap Edit next to the Hive Fives name at the top of the screen to manage your awards. From here you can:
- Tap Create new to create a custom Hive Five with your own name, point value, and image.
- Tap any existing Hive Five to edit its name, point value, or image.
- Tap Delete to remove an award.
Settings
Open the settings panel to adjust the following:
- Play sound on award — turn on to play a sound effect each time points are awarded.
- Reset all points — tap to clear all students' point totals and start fresh.
- Split students into groups — choose a group set from the dropdown to display your class split into their groups, with an Award group button for each. Tap Edit groups for this class to manage your group sets.
Tips
- You can add Hive Five Points to your favourite apps via the Teach Mode or through the App library. Click on this icon if you're adding it through the App library.
- You can connect Hive Five Points to specific subjects in your timetable (read more about timetable connections here). If you're connecting it through the App library, click this icon.
