How do I create Rotations?

What are Rotations?

Rotations in The Hive serve the same purpose as rotations created anywhere else: to cycle groups of students through different activities in a certain amount of time. We've just made them a breeze to create and worked them into your timetable.

What should I know before I get started?

  • Rotations are driven by class groups. If you haven't set them up yet, head to the Groups tab in Classes.
  • Activities are remembered across all your Rotations. Create once and reuse!
  • You can choose to show or hide student names within each group.
  • We've integrated all the timing into the Rotation presentation mode. Choose activity and swap times, and also alarm sounds for each.
  • Be sure to connect your Rotations to your timetable.

1. Press on the Content Tab from the left hand side menu.

5. To add an activity click 'Search or create'.

If you haven't created any other Rotations previously, you won't see any options available in the list. In that case, type in the name of an activity you've planned for your rotation, then hit enter, or click the create button.

6. You can set the colour, choose an image to represent that activity, update the activity's name, or delete it altogether.

If you'd like to add/update the image for an activity, you can either choose from our big library of included clip art, or you select one of your own uploads.

7. Once your first activity is configured, close the sheet and repeat for the first activity for your other groups. Once done, you'll have something which resembles this:

8. Hit the three dots menu up the top, and choose "Autofill from first column".

In one click, you now have rotations through each of the first activities you created.

9. Press the '--:--' swap tab to adjust the time for the activities to swap.

10. Select a time duration from the list, or enter your desired number of minutes manually. You can also add a sound notification by clicking the sound toggle drop-down to choose a different sound.

11. To present your rotation, click the 'Start Presenting' button to begin the activity.
